Labyrinthos
From the 29th of september till the 16th of October Estonia based artist Peeter Laurits will be virtually present as artist in residence at the Pavlov Medialab. Laurits works and lives in one of the last primordial forests in the South/East of Estonia. During 3 weeks he will be projected onto the huge warehouse wall of V&D in the inner city of Groningen.
In his own words: 'During the webcast I shall be working with my new collection Labyrinthos. It is an ultimately pagan or heathen vision of our present and future. 'Labyrinthos' presents 'Exile' as something ever present outside sanctioned and authoritarian structures of our minds. This something reveales itself in the language of myths, dreams and pauses.
I have mined and tried to trace my memory from the younger stone age, before land cultivating and cattle breeding were
invented and beings were sisters and brothers. Mysteries dating back to these times are centered for tuning to and harmonizing with nature. Later, instead, we tried to retailor these. Now nature is an exile of our environments and myths of natural initiation are exiles of our minds. Ruins of nature are civilization and ruins of civilization are nature. I shall weave my trip to Groningen and the webcast into this imagery shall. The whole project is scheduled for exhibitions in Tallinn, Berlin and New York in 2006 and Moscow Tretjakov Gallery in 2007.'
